A lesson in mistakes.....via Twilight!!

So picture the scene. About a year or so ago, i was MADE to watch twilight. So for people who dont no what it is about, lemme explain for ya in a few short sentences. Girl lives with dad, she fancies a boy, boy is a vampire, she figures it out, another boy fancies her, he is a werewolf, they both try to impress her, vampire boy does one,she gets close to wolf boy, he takes off his top, girls all over the world cream there pants, then vampires and wolves fight together to protect girl from nasty, yet fit, ginger vampire. So, i managed to sum up the story so far as reproduced on film, in a sentence short enough to read in 15 seconds. I hear you cry, "but Scott, why are you writing about Twilight if you seemingly have a low opinion of it?". Well the truth is, i actually admire Twilight. I like the storylines, i like the plot, i like Alice because she is absolutely stunning. But i think Twilight deals with some issues subliminely(sp), without the average viewer realising this. let me try and explain. Go back about 5 years or so ago, and we had goths and emo's, and all sorts of weird trends that were going around. I admit, a goth bird, or a tattood bird, did, and still does, gives me the major horn. Kat Von D, anyone? So there were these folk, mainly teenagers aged from say 16-19, that adopted this new slightly weird fashion, where hair was all messy and black, and they wore dark clothes and basically didnt give a shite what people thought off. and to be honest a lot of people pre-judged and made assumptions based on appearance. Now, imagine you see a group of teenagers knocking about now, the norm is to see them copying some hollywood film, or some primetime actress, cue hannah montana, miley cyrus etc. we consider this to be normal. Now, Twilight. Twilight sort of gives people the courage to be who they want to be. sounds daft, but hear me out. Bella in the film, seems normal, but she openly wants to be a vampire. the character isnt afraid of people perceptions or views, which is admirable. How many people can honestly say that they dont care about what other people think about them? Not a lot of people can. Vanity, image and perception are some traits that we cant shake off, we sometimes seem determined to want to control what we let others see about our personalities. why? is it a need to please all the time, and not be expected to trip up or stumble? personally, i try not let vanity and image bother me, although sometimes it does creep up on me. I love the twilight films, they connect people without them knowing, take this example. In the space of 7 days, i have convinced my uncle to watch the first 2 on dvd, and go the cinema see the 3rd one. he is 34, a joiner, and man's man. He loved them. and i know he did because he knew all the characters names, and started speculating on the next installment. but, there is a reason why i wanted to mumble about Twilight. MISTAKES. not as in mistakes in the film, but about a 3 minute scene in which we hear a inspiring talk about life and mistakes. i will discuss, and take any credit. so, we go through life making mistakes. its inevitable, and it is a good thing, and its a bad thing. so i made a mistake today, i wore a grey t-shirt to the gym! oh diddums! so basically, when i was sweating my arse off, you could see my shirt drenched in sweat. WAIT this might not necessarily(sp) be a mistake? you see, by me seeing how much i was sweating, it spurred me on to do more, because i could see the results of all my hard work!! so what initially was construed to be a mistake, actually wasnt! so why do we make these so called mistakes? well why not. a mistake is normally attributed to something which causes pain, sadness, or a general heartache, embarassment or a wrongdoing or incorrect answers etc.....but who decides if it is a mistake? well, there are in my opinion 2 types of outcomes for a mistake. the first is guaranteed mistakes. these are generally situations where proof is immediately evident, and so therefore instant conclusions are drawn, therefore rendering a mistake apparent, or not so. 2+2=5. MISTAKE-i know it is actually 4, therefore my knowledge outweighs the probability of a different outcome. the second, is a delayed outcome. the delay can be a minute, hour, month, year, decade etc. "i made a mistake by having a one night stand with someone!", definitley a mistake?? 18 years later-"i have a son, who means the world to me, this wasnt a mistake" so you can see 2 different outcomes. the point being to this? in my opinion, if you do not see a definitive conclusion straight away to what you perceive to be a mistake, then it isnt a mistake, its a path you have chosen. so if you book a train journey and you choose the wrong destination, you may have seemingly made a mistake, but what if the journey is now better than you expected? go ahead, and make your mistakes, but remember, they are not necessarily mistakes, they can be a path you have chosen subliminally, and they can be the best things you ever do. 2+2=4. peace x
